Beautiful copy of the first Italian edition of the famous 'Traité des Scrupules' (1717) by Duguet. A priest of the Oratory and a renowned moralist, Abbé Duguet (1649-1733) was attached to Port-Royal; close to Racine, but also to Mme de La Fayette, whose spiritual director he was. Master of introspection, Abbé Duguet soothed tormented souls, attentive to the procession of psychological disorders. He anticipated the conclusions of Esquirol and Freud on obsessions and compulsions.
