Description

(SAINT-GENOIS de GRAND-BREUCQ, François-Joseph de) Memoir concerning the inauguration of Joseph II as count of Hainaut. [Ca. 1782] 3 parts in 1 vol. in-f° : [2] ff, [4]-lxxx pp, [2] ff; 4 h.-t. (upper right corner torn, slightly browned, a few stains, 2 h.-t. detached). Br. (worn). Saint-Genois (1749-1816) writes to "Messeigneurs" of the States of Hainaut to submit a project of engravings commemorating the ceremony surrounding the enthronement of Joseph II as Count of Hainaut, a project he describes as "more useful and less expensive" than the one proposed by the architect Fonson. The said plates could find a place in the work that he prepares "Droits primitifs des anciennes terres et seigneuries du pays et comté de Haynaut autrichien et français [...]" (published in Paris by Saillant, 1783) and of which he attaches the first notebooks illustrated with 2 engraved hors-texts (Quarters of the abbesses of Flines and the mausoleum of one of them). In fine, drawn projects of the coats of arms of the county of Hainaut at the restoration of Philippe V and those of the peerages of Hainaut as well as those of the two tables taking again the order of the procession of the various orders and bodies in front of Sainte-Waudru and their arrangement in the collegiate church. Prov. stamps ill.
