Prestigious magazine that launched Japonisme in France. Siegfried Bing (who changed his first name to Samuel) opened in 1884 a store of applied art (jewels, bronzes, furnishing fabrics, glasses...) in Paris after having become aware of the artistic revival movement in Brussels. He named it "Maison de l'Art Nouveau", thus giving a name to the emerging artistic movement. Passionate about Japan, he created the magazine "Le Japon artistique" which influenced many artists including the Nabis.
