Wynants card album. 1st half of the 19th c ± 114 original cards, woodcut or metal engraved and stenciled, square corners, mounted under photo corners on supporting sheets. In a burgundy leatherette album. Good condition. Album composed from a sample book dating from c. 1830-1845 containing ± 102 original cards, accompanied by mss labels on blue paper. These include: 84 French sign cards, most with 2 heads; 12 Latin sign cards; 6 animal tarot cards. Then there are 12 French sign cards purchased later at public auction. The name of the cardmaker appears on DK p. 31, DK p. 33, AD p. 42, VT p. 74, DC p. 75. The cartier Wynants was active in Brussels from c. 1800 to 1848. The album also contains copies of a.o. 46 cards from the National Playing Card Museum in Turnhout. With comments of the collector René Pède, included in a catalog published in 2002.
