Description

FROIDOUR (Louis de): Instruction for the sales of the King's woods. Toulouse, Raymond Bosc, 1668. One volume. 11 by 16,5 cm. (40)-165-(1)-295 pages, and 3 folding engravings off-text (complete). Bound in contemporary soft vellum. Small lacks of material on the spine, worn cut on the 2nd plate. Small minor defects in the text (barely visible marginal wetness on the first 30 leaves, very fine worm gallery on a few leaves, without damage, two tears without missing in the margin of the engravings). Very rare first edition. In 1666, Louis de Froidour (1625-1685) was appointed by Colbert, Commissioner to lead the Great Reformation in the south, notably on the grand mastery of Toulouse. The task was immense, for he had to make a census of all the property titles and the way they were used. His work was to be an authority for more than a century and laid the foundations for a reasoned management that would be the basis for the techniques of the National Forestry Office. The author will be considered as the savior of the Pyrenean forest.
