This manuscript contains numerous annotations and corrections, sometimes in red. Each beginning of chapter was the subject of a calligraphic decoration work of Claude FARRERE. Each chapter is dated. The first one indicates two dates: Borda, 1894-1896, and the vines, Wednesday, April 14, 1920. On a cover page, in a different format, it is written: Where? Document. (manuscript) 1914 - 1312 "this manuscript, reproduced facsimile, with some copies, being nevertheless in no way intended for the vulgar public, will not be, of the life of CF, ever printed". 1312 corresponds to the year 1894 for the calendar of the Egire If we try to find a coherence to these indications, and considering the content of the text, we can think that Claude FARRERE lived a strong psychological experience in 1894-1896, in Borda, and that he transcribed it in 1920-1922 without having the project to publish it. Then, finally, he would have chosen to insert it in a collection of fantastic tales, The other side, in 1928, which removed the too personal character of it. But these are only the suppositions of an expert in detective stories.
