Ornamented with maps & figures in intaglio. Translated from the English [by Elie de Jaucourt]. Geneva, Henri-Albert Gosse, & Comp, 1750. One volume. 19 by 24.5 cm. XXIV-363-(1) pages plus 22 off-text folding plates, and 12 off-text maps, 11 of them folding (complete). Full contemporary binding in speckled basane, spine with 5 raised bands, decorated caissons, red title page. Small old restoration on the lower cover, one corner slightly spotted. A few scattered foxes without any seriousness. 2nd French edition of this important British voyage to Brazil and Patagonia, also containing valuable developments on Argentina, Peru, Mexico and China. Financed by the King of England, the squadron commanded by Admiral George Anson (1697-1762) was charged with attacking Spanish possessions in South America. He added topographical surveys and observations of all kinds.
