BRUYN, Cornelis de Reizen over Moskovie, door Persië en Indië Amsterdam, Willem and David Goeree, 1711 In-folio. Full contemporary basane. Spine with 6 nerves decorated with gilded caissons and arabesques. Author's and title pieces in red and blue duck morocco. Traces of gilt garland on the boards. Heads damaged and first board's jaw split (solid binding). Rubbing. Fresh interior (very rare small stains here and there). Remarkable first edition of this travel report by de Bruyn between 1701 and 1707 which remained for a long time a primary source on this part of the world. Title printed in red and black, engraved allegorical frontispiece, engraved portrait of the author by G. Valck after Godfrey Kneller, 2 folding engraved maps, 260 engravings on 109 engraved plates (many double-page, some folding and panoramic) and about 40 engraved illustrations in the text. Well complete with the 2 very large panoramic views of Moscow and Isfahan (one engraved sheet of the plan disassembled from the others, without missing). The plate of Sadet-Abad (n°83) with a tear in the margin without affecting the engraving. Very nice and well contrasted edition of the plates.
