DURAND ST AMAND, to his fellow citizens. "An immense mourning comes to afflict the Fatherland. An impious fight, prolonged during four days, spread death in the streets of the Capital... Inhabitants of Lille... A General whom you liked, who illustrated the national flag in the Fields of Algeria, whom the votes of the department of the NORTH had raised to the rank of Representative of the people, NEGRIER, fell! Honor to him! Honor to the brave men killed with him! The grateful France adopts their Family; They saved France! ... Tomorrow, June 28 (1848), a funeral service will be celebrated in honor of the victims of these sad days. Then a Te Deum will be sung in honor of the restoration of internal peace and the triumph of the Republic over anarchy. Long live the Republic!"
