Lafargue having sold one of his barrels of sugar, he prefers that he keep the others "rather than sell them in assignats" and congratulates him on the sale price; he would like him to sell them all at the same price "if I had all confidence in your paper money; I cannot conceal from you my fears in this respect, they are established on the state in which France finds itself & on the continuity of our misfortunes which are worsening more and more. On April 28, the situation had not changed: "the rebels continue to be masters of the plain and the mountains. He should wait to sell "unless you or Mr. Poupet of La Rochelle find a way to invest the proceeds of my goods in a piece of land... The number of emigrants who leave France should make these kinds of acquisitions quite easy, it seems to me"...
