Charles-François DUMOURIEZ (1739-1823) general, he won the battles of Valmy and Jemmapes and conquered Belgium; defeated at Neerwinden, he passed to the enemy. L.S. as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paris April 15, 1792; 1 1/2 pages in-fol. On Switzerland. He had given imperative orders "to the Ambassador in Switzerland to stop the recruitments that had been announced to be made publicly in this country for the army of the Emigrants. According to the Ambassador, nothing seems to justify this unfortunate rumor: "it even appears that the Canton of Berne has made the most severe deffenses in this regard and that these deffenses have been executed. He was assured that "the enrollments that are made are really for the account of Holland". The Ambassador promised to keep a close eye on this subject "so that no uncertainty remains on the true destination of these soldiers that are enrolled, either for Holland, or for other powers"...
