Letters written after the flight from Varennes. [June 26]. "Can the French fear the despots and the shooters? But one must be on guard "against all factious people who will try to disturb the public order. A longer impunity could lose the country". Populus defends the rights of the man restored by the Assembly. The flight of the King and his arrest put "the last seal to the Constitution". June 29. He reveals "the greatness of the danger that France ran, and how terrible was the plot that was formed against our Liberty.
