Johann Baptist Löxhaller (1745 Oberteisendorf in Rupertiwinkel - 1817 Hallein) Pair of portraits of Emperor Franz I of Austria and Crown Prince Ferdinand I of Austria Counterparts. Representative portraits from 1807, composed in ovals, depicting Franz I (1768 - 1835), who was the last emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1792-1806 as Franz II and founded the Austrian Empire in 1804, with all his ruler's insignia: Austrian imperial crown (Rudolf's crown), sceptre, imperial orb and ermine mantle, with the golden collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece among the decorations. The Crown Prince (1793 - 1875, 1835 - 1848 Emperor of Austria) is also depicted with the same insignia. The historical significance of the artistically high-quality, rare counterparts lies not least in the fact that they were created during the Napoleonic Wars shortly after Francis I's self-proclamation as Emperor of Austria (1804) and after the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire and the founding of the Confederation of the Rhine (1806). The oeuvre of the painter Johann Baptist Löxhaller, who worked in Hallein, includes a series of altarpieces as well as several portraits. These include portraits of the emperor's brother Ferdinand III (Tuscany) and two other, much less representative portraits of Franz I from 1807 and 1811 with the motto "Salus populi suprema lex" (The welfare of the people is the supreme law). Oil on canvas; the painting with portrait of Francis I signed a. dat. 1807. 102.5 cm x 79.5 cm. Frame. A pair of portraits depicting Francis I Emperor of Austria and his son Ferdinand I Crown Prince of Austria. One portrait signed and dated 1807.
