In-4 cream morocco decorated on the first plate with a mosaic lyre in light beige, dark beige and dark grey morocco and gilt fillets, smooth spine decorated with the title in gilt letters in the tail, vellum lining and endpapers, silvered tr., cover and spine preserved, in a folder and case (Creuzevault). 22 original etchings drawn and engraved by William Walcot, including a frontispiece and 4 hors texte. Edition at 200 copies (+37 hc); n°35 of the 50 on Japon impérial containing two states of the illustrations, one with remarks and enriched with a superb AUTOGRAPHIC LETTER SIGNED by G. FLAUBERT containing numerous and vivid impressions of the trip during which he amassed visions of landscapes and constituted his sources of inspiration and documentation for the writing of Salammbô : 4 pp.in-8, sl, sd ("samedi 8"), addressed to his friend Ernest Feydeau.
