[HAWKESWORTH (John). Almoran and Hamet. An oriental tale. In two volumes. The second edition. London, W. Osborne, T. Griffin, J. Mozley, 1783. 2 volumes in one vol. in-12, vi-154 pp. in continuous pagination, fawn roots calf, smooth spine decorated, red title page, lemon tr. (period binding). Corners dull otherwise a good copy. It was in 1761 that John Hawkesworth (1715-1773) published for the first time this "Circassian" (orientalizing) tale which met with a real success of esteem, and was the object in 1763 of a French translation by the abbot Prévost d'Exiles. (Cioranescu, XVIII, 51 368 (for the French edition). Precious copy of René-Louis de GIRARDIN (1735-1808), with the super-libris "A Mr. le Vte d'Ermenonville", in the center of the upper cover. On the back cover, label "A. S[tanisl]as Girardin" (General Louis-Stanislas-Xavier de Girardin, 1762-1827, eldest son of René-Louis).
