DUCLOS (Charles Pinot). Mahogany and Zirphile, tale. [Paris], [Prault], 1744. In-4, half vellum with corners, smooth mute back (period binding). The illustration consists of a frontispiece, a fleuron on the title, a vignette by Cochin fils, a cul-de-lampe, and 9 figures by Boucher engraved by Chedel. Several plates detached with margins creased. Binding stained, corners and cuts worn.

MARMONTEL (Jean-François). Contes moraux. Paris, Merlin, 1765. 3 vol. in-8, porphyry calf, ornate ribbed spines, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, combed edges (period binding). First illustrated edition of Marmontel's masterpiece, with a portrait by Cochin engraved by Saint-Aubin, a frontispiece repeated in each volume and engraved by Duclos after Gravelot, and 23 hors-texte figures by Gravelot. "Gravelot's figures are among the prettiest this master has produced" Cohen (686-687). A few small brown spots. A fine copy.

Contains the tales: Plus belle que fée, Persinette, L'Enchanteur, Tourbillon, Verd & Bleu, Le Pays des Délices, La Puissance d'Amour, La Bonne Femme. Minor scattered foxing and spotting, several pages browned.
