ALECHINSKY (Pierre) & FRÉNAUD (André). Life as it turns. Paris, Maeght, 1979. In-4 binding by Monique MATHIEU in blond cowhide, on which browned hemp strings are tied to mimic Alechinsky's graphics; boxwood rings roll along a mosaic arrow in pink, orange, red: it is the meaning of life (description provided by the artist). Smooth spine, title in brown letters, blond cowhide lining, old paper style endpapers, cover and spine preserved, in a half-cowhide folder with flaps and edge case (mm). Spine of the folder is damaged. 33 drawings from 1977, with brush, on paper offered to the illustrator by Jean-Pierre Pincemin, engraved in the text. First edition printed at 630 copies; n°51 of 90 with stencil highlights executed by Henri Hus in Montparnasse after original watercolors on the cover and among the text, accompanied by a suite of 3 etchings printed in red, blue and green on old obsolete notarial papers (reused manuscripts) signed and numbered 51/90. "I realize that all my decorations (or almost all), at the same time that they are inscribed in the rectangle, overflow it everywhere (at the limit, would seek to escape from it, could continue in the surrounding space."
