Description

VERNE (Jules). Five weeks in a balloon. Paris, Hetzel, sd (1865). First type rose bouquets cardboard, on green background. The only work of Jules Verne in this small in-8° format which will not be reused thereafter, and will leave the place a few months later to the "normal" large in-8° format, constantly used until the end of the 1930s by Hachette. It is printed by Bonaventure and Ducessois without any mention of their names. Of the three possible second boards for this edition, this one is cold decorated in the corners and in the center. Catalog of one leaf in fine. The spine is of the first type, composed in its middle of two half-ovals framing the title. Some very small retouching. Very nice interior despite very rare foxing. The cartonnage is splendid, very fresh. The book is covered with a cloth with a pattern that has never been encountered until now. Very first edition and absolutely extraordinary work.
