RIDINGER (Johann Elias). Fair and accurate representation of some monstrous deer and other wonderful animals hunted, killed, taken or kept alive by order and for the pleasure of friends and amateurs. [Bound with: ] [Representation of various animals that hunt themselves, and their tracks]. Augsburg, 1740-1768. In-folio, red half-chagrin, smooth spine decorated, untrimmed (period binding). Reunion of two beautiful and rare complete suites by Ridinger, mounted on tabs and devoted to game and hunting. They are respectively composed of a title and 100 engraved plates for the first one, and a title, a leaf and 23 plates for the second one. All the plates are mounted on tabs. One finds hunting and game scenes, exotic animals such as a rhinoceros, beautiful horses, various animals such as lions, deer and badgers in their natural environment. Johann Elias Ridinger (1698-1767) was considered one of the most prominent engravers in Augsburg and was famous for his animal engravings. With Jean-Baptiste Oudry, he is recognized as one of the best animal artists of the 18th century. Very good condition, beautiful prints, large margins, despite some foxing to some plates. Corners worn.
