Rare first edition of this fundamental work, with 2 plates in fine. Illustrious Swiss biologist, François Huber had the misfortune to lose his sight at the age of 15. He was helped in his important research by his wife and his collaborator F. Burnens; with their help, he was able to establish the possibility of fertilization of the queen outside the hive putting an end to the theory of total parthogenesis. Rusty stain in the upper margin of the first few leaves, otherwise a good copy.
