In-folio brown calf, spine gilt, gilt title, double gilt fillet framing the boards with gilt arms in their center, and gilt numerals in the spandrels (contemporary binding). Spines and corners dulled, jaws cracked and worn. (22) ff, 892 pp, (21) ff. of tables. The illustration consists of a beautiful engraved frontispiece portrait, a beautiful title vignette, a vignette at the head of the dedication. Without the last leaf(s) of the tables. With the arms of Helie du Fresnoy (1614-1698), son of Martin apothecary; became first clerk to the chancellor Le Tellier, then to the marquis de Louvois. This bibliophile had his books covered with very beautiful and rich bindings executed by the best artists, notably by Le Gascon. (OHR 963.)
