PUYSEGUR (Amand Marie Jacques de Chastenet, marquis de). Letter signed, countersigned by Joseph Deleuze and the baron d'Hénin de Cuvillers, to the publisher Jean Gabriel Dentu. Paris, May 11, 1818. 1 p. in-4 (25,5 x 20 cm) on a double sheet, printed header "Société du Magnétisme" with engraved vignette surmounted by the motto "Spes boni" (the hope of good). A dispute between the Société du Magnétisme and the house Dentu. It concerns the printing of the Bibliothèque du Magnétisme animal, which appeared at Dentu since 1817: "The Society in its session of the 11th of May current, decided unanimously that if Mr. Dentu refuses to fulfill the conditions stipulated in the act he signed with Mr. de Montferrier on August 30, 1817, the Society will cease, as of next July 1st of the present year, to supply Mr. Dentu, with materials for the printing of the said library of Magnetism..." General officer of artillery, the Marquis de Puységur (1751-1825) was the leader of the school of animal magnetism. Author of numerous works on the subject, he was a student of Franz Anton Mesmer. Naturalist and librarian at the Museum, Joseph Deleuze (1753-1835) belonged to this school, as well as Baron d'Hénin de Cuvillers (1755-1841), known to be the designer of hypnosis. Good condition.
