Small folio (30,1 x 21 cm) of (17) ff. of various sizes, 16 of which mounted on tabs; Bradel cardboard, boards covered with marbled paper, garnet-colored title page (late 19th century binding). Beautiful set of manuscripts of the poet, fabulist and chansonnier Pierre Lachambeaudie. It includes 2 engraved plates (including a portrait), 1 autograph letter signed, 7 autograph manuscripts (6 signed) and 1 signed piece : - Engraved portrait. Paris, Imprimerie de Drouart, Bry aîné, éditeur, s.d., 1 p. in-8, mounted on a flyleaf; represents the author around the middle of the 19th century. - Autograph letter signed to a friend. [Paris], 39 rue Saint-Ambroise, s.d., 1 p. in-8. He asks his correspondent to give him back a manuscript that he needs, in order to prepare "a small volume in prose". - L'Amour et le chagrin. Fable. Concerns the publication of a complete edition of the Fables et poésies diverses. The first part, in 18 articles, contains the conditions of publication: edition, illustrations, exploitation of the edition, royalties, etc. The second part, in 4 articles, contains the modifications made to the contract. Born in Montignac-sur-Vézère (Dordogne) in 1806, Pierre Lachambeaudie took the Saint-Simonian habit in Lyon in 1832 and arrived in Paris the following year, where he published several collections of fables and poetry. His songs, of socialist inspiration, brought him fame. Arrested following the days of June 1848 because of his friendship with Blanqui, he was released thanks to the intervention of Béranger. Sentenced to deportation after the coup d'état of December 2, 1851, his sentence was commuted and he went into exile in Brussels. Back in Paris in 1856, he published new collections and died in Brunoy (Essonne) in 1872 (Cf. Maitron, Dictionnaire biographique du mouvement ouvrier (online).
