First edition of this important thesis devoted to the history of slavery in the French West Indies before the revolution of 1789. The author first studies the slave trade, then the living conditions of the slaves (the Black Code, religion and customs of the slaves, punishments, revolts and marronage). He also devotes a chapter to the situation of slaves brought to France, and another to the freedmen. A good copy.
