Description

EBAUDY DE FRESNE (François). Plan of restoration and liberation, based on the principles of legislation & political economy. Proposed to the Estates-General. Comparison of the plan of liberation of the owners and that of the capitalists. Sl, 1789. In-8, half tan basane, smooth spine decorated, spotted tr. (rel. début XIXe s.). Some brown spots. Second edition of the Plan de restauration et de libération, published in 1788, and adapted to the new political situation (with the simplification of the title, and the mention of the Etats Généraux), but still opposed to Necker's financial policy. Like all the works of the author, this title is very unusual. François Ebaudy de Fresne (1743-1815), a native of Franche-Comté, was an enthusiastic political economist who, from 1763 onwards, travelled to England and the Netherlands to observe agricultural techniques and the organization of banks. The fruit of his research was not published until twenty years later in a series of treatises that constitute real sources of reflection on the wealth of the country and the means to develop it. Bound with two other titles by the same author: I. Traité d'agriculture. Considered as much in itself as in its relations of political economy. With the proofs, drawn from the comparison of the agriculture, the trade & the navigation of France & England. Principles on which the distribution of taxes & public expenses should be established, to encourage culture & commerce, in the situation in which France finds itself. Volume one, part one. Impositions, expenses & savings of the countryside. Agriculture, economy trade, first source of our wealth. Paris, De Bray, 1788, [6] ff, XCVI-143 pp, [2] ff table of chapters, with a large folding table (paper repairs to the title leaf, and to the following leaves, foxing and wetness). The complete work, very rare, forms two volumes in three. II. A treatise on agriculture and the economy of culture and the arts, considered both in themselves and in their relationship to political economy. With the proofs, drawn from the comparison of the agriculture, the trade and the navigation of France and England (...). Paris, De Bray, 1788, 50 pp. This is a summary of the Traité d'agriculture.
