Description

[Charity of Caen]. Long live Jesus and Mary! Customary for the nuns of Our Lady of Charity, Order of Saint Augustine, containing the Directory and Ceremonial of the Divine Office, the order to administer the last sacraments, and to perform the burial according to the Roman ritual; with the customs and usages of their congregation, and the directories of the house offices. Divided into four parts. Caen, Imprimerie de A. Le Roy, sd (c. 1840). In-4, [6] ff, 156-364 pp, [8] ff (approvals, tables), half tan basane, spine with gilt fillets, title page, spotted edges (late 19th century binding). Slight tears on the spine. Reproduction of the second edition of 1740 (according to the indications of the dedication). It is curious that the BnF gives 1740 as the date of printing of this customary, since, in the commemorations, the most recent date indicated in the Calendar of months is 1836 (p. 20, date of the foundation of the monastery of Blois). This is a monastic printing intended only for the houses of Charity of Caen, founded by St. John Eudes in 1641-1651, and endowed with an equivalent of statutes in 1678. Only one copy in the CCFr (BnF).
