USA. RARE COMMEMORATIVE FLAG of the 3rd US Army. White and red silk monoface fringed with gold, with embroidered insignia of the 3rd US Army, the whole decorated with the 56 (original) sleeve insignia (patch) of the units composing the 3rd Army and hand embroidered with 16 laurel branches in gold canetille. Format 85 X 121 cm (excluding bangs). Modern frame under glass. A framed facsimile of the photo showing the handing over of the flag to the general is attached. BE Made for General Patton 15 days before his accidental death on December 21, 1945, it was presented to him by Major General Robert Littlejohn (chief quartermaster of European Theater of Operations). The original flag is now on display at the Patton Museum at Fort Knox, USA. Only 3 reproductions of the highest fidelity have been made, two are in American collections, the last one is proposed here. There are only 4 flags of this model. If all the patches are perfectly original some are quite rare.
