FROST JOHN: (1912-1993) British Major General of World War II, best known as the leader of a small group of British airborne troops who arrived at Arnhem bridge during the Battle of Arnhem in Operation Market Garden. A colour printed 8vo magazine advert for the book A Bridge Too Far: Hell's Highway by Cornelius Ryan and featuring a colour image of an artist's impression of the fighting at Arnhem bridge, signed by Frost in blue fountain pen ink to a clear area, adding his rank beneath his signature. VG Cornelius Ryan's book A Bridge Too Far was published in 1974 and gives an account of Operation Market Garden. It formed the basis for the 1977 film of the same name in which Anthony Hopkins portrayed John Frost.
