Abbé COUTANT, Bernard COUTANT dit (Saint-Jean-de-Liversay 1920 - Saintes 2008) - [Floral composition]. Watercolor and felt pen on paper mounted on canvas. Signed lower left in the composition. 55,5 x 42 cm. Condition A (good condition). Abbé Coutant was a French Catholic priest and painter. He was a guide-historian for the city of La Rochelle between 1973 and 1990 and is known for the letters that Gaston Chaissac wrote to him, published under the title Le Laisser-Aller des Éliminés. Between his entry into the "Little Sisters of the Poor of Saintes" in 1990 at the age of 70 and his death in 2008, the production of the painter Coutant was abundant. His rich and varied work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, notably at the Halle Saint-Pierre. The Musée de la Création Franche de Bègles (Gironde) has a magnificent collection of his creations.
