Description

[BAUDELAIRE Charles]; Collective. The Poets of Love. Collection of French verses of the XV°, XVI°, XVII°, XVIII° and XIX° Centuries, preceded by an introduction by Jean Lemer. Paris : Garnier Frères, sd (1850). One volume in-18. Dark green half-chagrin of the time, spine ribbed. Frontispiece. PRE-ORIGINAL EDITION of the poem LESBOS (pages 469 to 472), which was not published until 1857 and immediately condemned. It was suppressed in many copies, whereas in our collection, it was not censored at all. In the same way, the poem A une belle dévote attributed by Lemer to Henry Vermot, is in fact by Baudelaire. (Study published in the Bulletin du Bibliophile in January 1937 by Fernand Vanderem and also in the Bibliophilie Nouvelle in 1939). VERY GOOD COPY.
