Bound in circa 1870 in red chagrined demi-percaline, smooth spine decorated with cold rows in place of the nerves, titled in gold, all edges marbled. ORIGINAL EDITION of the first book of Mérimée, published anonymously, whose preface is signed by his pseudonym "Joseph L'Estrange". One of the few copies with the mention " Théâtre de Clara Gazul " on the false title (and not " Collection des théâtres étrangers ", as often). Without the extremely rare portrait of Clara Gazul. Ex-libris applied on the back cover of Corticcachio (José Corti). In-fine table reassembled, foxing. GOOD COPY.
