Description

[ARAGON, Louis] François la Colère :Le Musée Grévin.Slne : sd [Imprimerie spéciale des éditions de minuit, 1943]. A sheet in-4° of 27x63 cm of pink coated paper printed recto verso and folded in 3 to the format 27 x 21 cm format 6 pages. Mentioned price of 10 francs at the top right of the 1st page. Text on two columns, printed in italic characters.VERY ORIGINAL (?) EDITION called "de luxe". A certain uncertainty hovers, on the character of true original edition, of this extremely rare booklet. Indeed, the text of Aragon, published under the pseudonym of François la Colère, also appeared in October 1943 in the form of a leaflet made up of a sheet 28 x 62,5 cm of newspaper printed recto verso and also folded in three with the format 28 x21 cm forming 6 pages.According to Henri Vignes, in his Bibliography of the Editions of minuit, p.58, n°8: "This edition known as "of luxury"... does not comprise mention of printer at the end. Is it a printing made by Eluard for his bibliophile friends? The composition of the text is different from that of the tract described as original, so that in the absence of a print completion, one cannot know which in reality precedes the other." It is in this poem that we find one of the first mentions of the Auschwitz camp, whose existence had just been revealed to Aragon by an escapee in the summer of 1943: "On the borders of Poland, there is a gehenna / Whose name whistles and blows an awful song / Ausschwitz (sic)! Ausschwitz! O bloody syllables! Here we live, here we die by slow fire / This is called the slow execution / A part of our hearts perishes there little by little." (See also Librairies Vignes and La Palourde : L'intelligence en guerre, pp.16-17, n° 28 to 30).EXCELLENT CONDITION of a great rarity.
