ERRATUM ATTRIBUTED TO PIERRE PILLOT (1748-1822) LARGE PROVENCAL WEDDING CONSOLE About 1785-1790. Richly carved wood, white lacquered and enhanced with gold leaf. H. 90 cm W. 197 cm D. 64 cm Chips of the gilding spread over the whole front and sides. Rectangular in shape, it rests on four tapered legs, fluted and filleted with asperges and a ring of gadroons under the the belt. The "H" shaped spacer is richly carved with stylized foliage stylized foliage on the top and sides. An inverted acanthus base is in the center of a circular shelf. The belt is finely carved with two olive branches in the natural tied with a ribbon knot. The decoration is repeated on each side strongly curved. Carrara marble top, characteristic of the consoles consoles by Pillot. Pierre Pillot did his apprenticeship in the Parisian workshop of Mathieu Bauve and moved to Nîmes around 1770 near the market place. The console and the mirror are, in Provence, wedding gifts in the same way as the wardrobe. This type of furniture of very large size was intended to furnish the castles of Provence. The carved decoration of the belt corresponds exactly to the decoration of the mirror frame of the dining room of the Hôtel de Cavoye.
