SOAPS CARPET KNOTTED IN AUBUSSON, FRANCE 18TH CENTURY, LOUIS XIV PERIOD 6,71 x 6,37 m This important soapwork is decorated with a large polychrome central rose window enhanced by a small polychrome polychrome. This central composition stands out on a green green background dotted with vases and interlacing polychrome flowers, scrolls and acanthus leaves, all on a yellow background decorated with four-leaf clovers. The whole is decorated four large spandrels with garlands of flowers and shells. A blue border with flowery scrolls and acanthus leaves circles the composition. The term "Savonnerie" which originally designates hand-knotted carpets hand-knotted carpets, from the 17th century, in the Parisian workshop of the Savonnerie (an old workshop where soap was made, hence the name) on the of Chaillot, tends now, because of the vogue of the French carpets, to be used to be used to designate all the carpets with the knotted point of French or European manufacture. In Aubusson, carpets with the were made in the 18th century, starting in the 1740s. However, the knotting technique is not the same in Paris and Aubusson. and Aubusson: the carpets knotted in Paris have a tighter aspect than than those of Aubusson.
