SOAPS CARPET KNOTTED IN AUBUSSON, FRANCE 18TH CENTURY, LOUIS XIV PERIOD 6,97 x 5,37 m This important carpet is decorated with a large central medallion with a small polychrome medallion surrounded by a garland of with a garland of flowers, on a beige background with bouquets of flowers and brown background decorated with scrolls of blue acanthus leaves surrounded by old pink and gold scrolls, and on the sides by shells. It is surrounded by a small braid with motifs of ribboned rushes. The term "Savonnerie" which originally designates hand-knotted carpets hand-knotted carpets, from the 17th century, in the Parisian workshop of the Savonnerie (an old workshop where soaps were made, hence the name) on the hill of Chaillot, now tends, because of the vogue for French carpets, to be used to designate all to designate all the carpets with the knotted point, of French or European or European manufacture. In Aubusson, carpets with the knotted point were made in the 18th century, starting in the 1740s. However, the knotting technique is not the same in Paris.
