MODEL OF ROBERT OSMOND, CLOCKMAKER (1711-1789) DIAL SIGNED GILLE LAINÉ IN PARIS (PIERRE GILLE CALLED GILLE THE ELDER, MASTER IN 1779). SCULPTOR LAURENT GUIARD (1723-1788) FOUNDER ATTRIBUTED TO EDMÉ ROY (IN 1764). IMPORTANT MANTEL CLOCK CALLED "À LA GEOFFRIN OR "À L'EMPLOI DU TEMPS". Louis XVI period, around 1760. Gilt bronze. H. 43 cm W. 65 cm D. 23 cm Period mechanism to be restored. Pendulum removed. Provenance : - Sale on June 26, 2001 at Piasa, lot n°62, N.V. Bibliography : - L'Estampille - L'Objet d'Art n° 224, April 1989, pages 34 to 41: "The Geoffrin clock, a successful model", by Christian Baullez. The young woman sitting on a small bench is reading a large book, her left arm left arm resting on the dial. It is Madame Geoffrin, born Marie-érèse Rodet (1699-1777). She held a famous literary salon (See the book by Maurice Hamon, "Madame Geoffrin - Femme d'influence, femme d'affaires au temps of the Enlightenment" published by Fayard, 2010). She symbolizes "l'Emploi du Temps", the second name given to this model of clock. The base is decorated with a frieze of interlacing foliage. The dial has Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for Arabic numerals for the minutes. This model created in 1757 for Madame Geoffrin had a great success in the eighteenth century, which continued throughout the nineteenth century ... My clock of Guyard : it came back to me at 3000 livres because I made the model of it model; it is the original one". However the models of the XVIIIth remain much rarer. The back door is equipped with a glass. Contrasted on the back plate and bears the number 3029. On the perimeter of the base plate, wear of gilding in surrounding.
