LOT 54B * LOUIS MOREAU (1740-1791) Received master in 1764 and merchant IMPORTANT CURVED CHEST OF DRAWERS IN CHINESE LACQUER WITH TWO DRAWERS WITHOUT CROSSBAR Louis XV period, circa 1765 H. 86 cm W. 146 cm D. 60,5 cm One side panel is cracked. The bronzes are tarnished. The bottoms and the inter-drawers have been restored. With its key. This beautiful piece of furniture bears the stamp of L. Moreau as trade mark more than cabinetmaker. The front is decorated in gold on a black background with a village scene animated by numerous characters and animals. In the center, a pagoda on stilts with access by ladder. In the lower part, two wild animals are attacking a deer. In the periphery, houses with a few characters. This vast decoration, surrounded by the same bronze trim as that of the of the Boudin commode (lot 54A) is in good condition. Similarly, the four rocaille handles and the short sabots are identical. The right side is decorated with a small narrow bridge where a woman is walking. On the water, a boat with a man standing. On the left side village on a mound raised on the edge with two characters and birds. The marble top is exactly the same as as the commode of Boudin. It is a Campan large mixture in veneer and surrounded by a slab of stone. Stamped L. MOREAU on a rear post with with the stamp of the jury. Another stamp or maybe the one of Moreau Moreau's stamp repeated twice has been burned. Sold separately with possibility of reunion for the lot 54A and 54B.
