Figures and Grimaces. Paris, Les Écrivains réunis, 1926. In-12 [192 x 140] of (66) ff. the first blank : paperback, filled cover. First edition. Edition at 415 copies; this one on vellum paper, not put in the market and specially printed for the artist who offered it to the writer and literary critic Léon Bazalgette (1873-1928), with a friendly autograph signed on the first blank page. Frans Masereel engraved ten woodcuts to illustrate the French translation that Léon Bazalgette gave in 1919 of Walt Whitman's Calamus. They both frequented the Abbaye de Créteil, the association of writers and artists founded in 1906 under the aegis of Charles Vildrac and Georges Duhamel. Nice copy as issued.
