Charming autograph letter to Paul Valéry :

Paul Valéry had nicknamed Jean Cocteau "the salt of the earth".
Upon receiving Le Grand Ecart, his first novel published that same year, Valéry thanked him: "It is not a novel. What I congratulate you. It is you. What I prefer."
