A MUGHAL KHANJAR WITH 'HORSE' JADE HANDLE
North India or Deccan, 18th - 19th century. The Khanjar with a blue-gray jade handle carved in the shape of a horse head and engraved with an iris flower at the base, the eyes inlaid with rubies. The slightly curved double-edged blade is made of Damascus steel and the heel inlaid in gold koftgari. The jade with inclusions and bedrock.
Provenance: French private collection.
Condition: Good condition, the blade with minor corrosion, traces of age and wear.
