A GRISAILLE 'KUI XING' BRUSHPOT, BITONG, TONGZHI MARK AND PERIOD China, 1861-1875, dated 1873. Of cylindrical form, painted in grisaille, iron-red and with golden highlights, depicting the god of literature Kui Xing in his characteristically vigorous pose, holding a writing brush, to his left the constellation of the Big Dipper, the rim with gilding. The recessed base with an iron-red painted dedication, Tongzhi reign mark and dated 12th year of Tongzhi (1873). Provenance: German private collection. Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear, mostly to gilding, a few manufacturing irregularities such as dark spots. Weight: 258.2 g Dimensions: Height 10.6 cm
