A GROUP OF DRUMMERS, HAN DYNASTY China, Han dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). Consisting of a drum and two standing drummers, dressed in long robes, their hands raised in the motion of holding drumsticks, painted in white, red, and black, the faces with fine details. The hands with apertures for mounting drumsticks. Provenance: Galerie Zacke, Vienna, 9 June 2000. Dr. Mons Fischer, acquired from the above, sold for ATS 30,000 (approx. EUR 3,500 after inflation) - one of the drummers has been replaced by another dating to the same period. Being a seasoned private collector of modern and contemporary art, Dr. Mons Fischer has acquired fine Chinese works of art since the 1980s, eventually building one of the most important collections of its kind in Austria. Condition: Good condition, and commensurate with age, as expected from Han dynasty excavations. Remnants of pigments, fissures, encrustations, repairs, and a hole drilled for sample taking at one drummer. Scientific Analysis Report: A thermoluminescence sample analysis has been conducted by Universität fuer Angewandte Kunst, Institut fuer Konservierungswissenschaften und Restaurierung - Technologie, on 3 March 2000, based on sample number VHTL-P416, and sets the firing date of the sample taken at about 350 AD. A scan of the thermoluminescence report is accompanying this lot. One of the drummers has been replaced by another dating to the same period.
