CÔTE D'IVOIRE / IVORY COAST Dan Diomande "deangle" mask, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire Wood with brown patina Height: 25cm / 9 7/8" Female face as suggested by the slit eyes, this deangle mask is part of the entertainment masks, displayed with the singing masks during the festivities. It also plays the role of intermediary between the camp and the village, during the initiation rites of young boys. The nose with its hemmed wings surmounts a half-open mouth, the lower lip blurring into an almost abstract volume. The long linear scars surrounding the face determine a Diomande production. A custom display stand will be included with the lot.
