HEINZ MACK Surrounded by Yves Klein, Jean Tinguely, Lucio Fontana, Gunther Ucker and Victor Vasarely, Heinz Mack's founding personality made him a recognized pioneer of the European avant-garde in the 1950s and 1960s. Born in 1938 in Lollar, Germany, Heinz Macke, a founding member of the Zero Group in 1958, distanced himself from post-war lyrical abstraction, preferring analytical abstraction detached from sentimentality, inspired by Chevreul and pioneering Optical Art in the 1950s. In Mediterranean Summer, Mack develops his aesthetic of a moving image, through the use of subtle gradations and dynamic arrow composition.
