Description

Leonor FINI.

Letter addressed to Paul Eluard. Monte Carlo Sun Palace, 14 [April 1943]. Autograph letter signed Leonor, 1 ½ page in-4, on yellow paper, envelope kept. Interesting letter evoking, around common editorial projects, the reception of Eluard in Italy during the war. It also alludes to the painting of Giorgio de Chirico. An Italian edition of Eluard's poems, illustrated by her, will soon be submitted to her correspondent by André Pieyre de Mandiargues: "In Italy you are read and loved very much now". She solicits his collaboration for a "small book" illustrated with a dozen of her drawings in preparation: she would like to take up Le Tableau noir, a poem that had appeared in the catalog of her exhibition at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York in 1936. "...would you like to add a small text on my drawings? It would give me great pleasure. André will show you some reproductions of my recent drawings. Write to me. Greetings and hugs to Nouch [sic]. I follow everything that is published about you and about you, always. Finally, she gives news of Alberto Savinio and his brother Giorgio de Chirico, who "paints worse and worse".
