Jean COCTEAU et Georges HUGNET.

The Tablecloth of the Catalan. Sixty-four poems and sixteen lithographs in colors. Paris, 1952. In-4, night blue half-maroquin à la Bradel, smooth spine decorated with red fillets, unbleached cloth boards decorated with a checkerboard of red and cold fillets with authors' names and title in blue letters, untrimmed, illustrated covers and spine preserved, slipcase (Mercher, 1969) First edition: it is illustrated with 16 original full-page lithographs in colors by Jean Cocteau and Georges Hugnet, in addition to an illustration on the cover. The work was published at the expense of Mrs Francine Weisweiller. One of the 10 copies of collaborators on vellum of Ries (ex. J) signed by the authors. The Catalan was a restaurant located in front of Picasso's studio on rue des Grands-Augustins. "Poems and lithographs were imagined in concert by Jean Cocteau and his commensal, the surrealist poet Georges Hugnet, each one leaving among his verses gaps that the other one filled; in the same way, when the color is of the one, the line returns to the other" (Jacques T. Quentin, Jean Cocteau, 1997, n° 185).
