First edition of the first book published by Charles Nodier.
It is illustrated with a copper engraved frontispiece.
A "wertherian" novel by Charles Nodier, then 22 years old; it was reprinted in 1808 under the title Stella ou les Proscrits. In Bonaparte's France, it met a great success: "the Proscrits constitutes with René and Oberman the true trinity of the first romanticism" (Hermann Hofer).
A very fine copy preserved at full margins, in a pastiche binding.
Spine slightly faded.
