Les Proscrits. Paris, chez Lepetit et Gérard, an X - 1802. In-12 of 1 frontispiece, 131 pp., 12 pp. : half-maroquin with long grain and green corners, smooth spine decorated in long, untrimmed, covers and spine of pink paper kept (modern binding). First edition of the first book published by Charles Nodier. It is illustrated with a copper engraved frontispiece. A "wertherian" novel by Charles Nodier, then 22 years old; it was reprinted in 1808 under the title Stella ou les Proscrits. In Bonaparte's France, it met a great success: "the Proscrits constitutes with René and Oberman the true trinity of the first romanticism" (Hermann Hofer). A very fine copy preserved at full margins, in a pastiche binding. Spine slightly faded. (Clouzot, Guide du bibliophile français, p. 224: "Very rare. Various reprints, all rare").
