First edition : first issue copy without the dedication to Lamartine.
First book of Frédéric Mistral (1830-1914).
Winner of the Nobel Prize in 1904, the master of the Félibrige restored to Provençal its rank as a literary language. Recognized at once by Vigny, Sainte-Beuve and Lamartine, the poet saw his work popularized by the musical adaptation that Charles Gounod gave (Mireille, 1864).
Signed autograph letter on the false title: to my good friend Chalvet,/felibre dóu Pountias/F. Mistral/Maillane/(Bouches du Rhône) / 20 de/febrié 1859.
Important provenance: Barthélémy Chalvet (1806-1877) was one of the first poets at the origin of the félibrige movement. Nicknamed Lou felibre dóu Pountias, he was a health officer.
Beautiful copy in contemporary binding. Some spotting without gravity.
