Stéphane MALLARME.

Oxford, Cambridge. La Musique et les Lettres. Paris, Perrin et Cie, 1895. In-12 of (3) ff, 84 pp, (2) ff, paperback, blue paper cover. First edition. Conference given in Cambridge and Oxford in March 1894 in which the poet clarifies his politics in a climate marked by anarchist attacks. Ironically, Mallarmé condemns all murderous violence and the sensational press's amalgamation of terrorist anarchism and verslibrism. Autograph letter signed on the preliminary page: To the Revue Bleue/this nothing/and the homage of/SM Interesting provenance that of Revue politique et littéraire, commonly called Revue bleue because of the color of its cover. Founded in 1863, the magazine counted among its contributors Teodor de Wyzewa, Jules Lemaître and Charles Maurras. In 1893, it made the French public aware of the work of Max Stirner and Nietzsche, notably through an article by J. Thorel dedicated to the "Fathers of Anarchism. Bakunin, Stirner, Nietzsche". Nice copy in paperback. Cover slightly restored.
