Stéphane MALLARME.

Pages. With an etching frontispiece by Renoir. Brussels, Edmond Deman, 1891. In-4 of 1 frontispiece, 192 pp. : half havana leather, ribbed spine, lavaliered morocco title page, untrimmed, red head (period binding). Partly original edition : it is illustrated, as a frontispiece, with an etching on a tinted background by Renoir. It is one of the first engravings made by the artist. Limited edition of 325 copies; this one of 275 on Hollande. The collection was initially to be published under the title Le Tiroir de laque, illustrated by a host of artists. However, only Renoir answered the poet's call. Beautiful autograph letter signed on the preliminary page: To Paul Nadar/in good friendship/on the earth and on the water/Stéphane Mallarmé/Valvins, 1891 Paul Nadar (1856-1939), son of the photographer, befriended the poet in July 1891, one month after the publication of the collection. In the correspondence, Mallarmé relates in particular fishing trips on board the canoe of his neighbor Nadar. Pleasant copy in contemporary binding. Scattered spotting.
